The Prep class at Merinda State School is exciting, engaged and full of a wonderful assortment of treasures and sweets that make learning and teaching interesting everyday. Merinda is located approximately 10kms from Bowen, Queensland in Australia. Bowen is home of the big Mango and surrounded by beautiful coastal beaches. Although Merinda is a small school of around 100 students, the learning opportunities and world class expectations means our learning is unlimited. We know everyone at our school and care about each other. Our Prep teacher is Mrs Pethers (Mrs P for short).
In Prep, we are working together to be great leaders for our future. We are growing strong and being challenged everyday. Our curriculum is play based but taught through a fun explicit style model as we are an explicit teaching school. We are a whole brain teaching class, in fact our whole school is using these strategies this year. Our curriculum is differentiated across Literacy and Numeracy and we are provided with great support services through our STLAN, Speech teacher, teacher aides supporting every classroom and gifted and talented programs.
The Arts is Mrs P’s favourite and she ensures our class and school has great exposure to all the elements of Arts regularly. As well as having a specialist HPE teacher and many oppportunities to grow in these areas and more. Keep following our class blog and join our adventures in Prep 2014!
